Active Learning is committed to, and celebrates, the diversity of our community by fostering an environment that is inclusive, supportive, and welcoming to all. We recognise that our steps forward must be made considering the issues that shape our world. It is only through a dedicated commitment to this work that we can achieve our mission of providing the highest quality of education to our young people and actively shaping a more positive future.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (or EDIB) is a core value and priority of the provision.
We use the acronym EDIB to describe our efforts to build a community and practice that is inclusive, supportive, equitable, and welcoming. The following terms are used to capture our work:
Equity
Promoting fair treatment, access, and opportunity for advancement while striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of all groups.
Diversity
Psychological, physical, and social differences that occur among any and all individuals; these include but are not limited to race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, etc.
Inclusion
The act of creating environments in which any individual or group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate and be their full authentic selves.
Belonging
The sense of acceptance as a part or member of a group; an important human need that cultivates value and positive outcomes.
