Counselling & Therapy

Emotional well-being and emotional literacy play a crucial role in a student’s academic success and overall development. Life challenges such as bereavement, serious illness, or parental separation can impact a young person’s mental health, leading to difficulties like anxiety, sleep disturbances, low self-esteem, anger issues, and eating disorders.

At The Active Learning Company, we offer confidential counselling and therapeutic support to help children, young people, and families navigate emotional challenges. Our experienced therapists provide a safe space to explore concerns and develop strategies for positive change.

Our therapeutic approaches include:

  • Short-Term Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Long-Term Psychotherapeutic Intervention
  • Parental Support
  • Art Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Family Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Psychoeducation

Through personalised and compassionate support, we empower young people and their families to build resilience, develop emotional well-being, and thrive both academically and personally.

Learn with Active Learning

Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)

Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) refer to difficulties with certain aspects of learning, which can exist independently or as part of a broader profile. SpLDs occur on a continuum, ranging from mild to severe, and each individual experiences a unique combination of challenges. These differences stem from the way the brain processes and expresses information.

At The Active Learning Company, we recognise that every learner is unique. Our Educational Psychology Practice tailors multisensory programmes to each pupil’s learning profile. Our team of Specialist Teachers provides a range of services, including:

  • Consultation, advice, and support for parents, children, and young people with SpLD.
  • Baseline assessments to identify learning needs, strengths, gaps, and targets.
  • Structured intervention programmes focused on literacy, numeracy, handwriting, touch typing, exam preparation, study skills, working memory, and self-management.
  • Multisensory, learner-centred, and cumulative teaching delivered in small groups or individual sessions.
  • Tailored specialist support at home and in educational settings.
  • Assistance for pupils with SpLDs, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, and dysgraphia, as well as those with anxiety, attention difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language issues, moderate learning difficulties (MLD), and working memory challenges, including visual and auditory processing difficulties.
  • Support for non-SpLD pupils needing an academic boost or English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners.
  • Assessments for Examination Access Arrangements (EAA) Form 8, a requirement under Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) for pupils with learning difficulties.
  • Online digital consultations for parents and educators to enhance learning strategies for children with dyslexia and dyscalculia through curriculum and instructional support.

Our goal is to empower learners by providing targeted interventions and practical support, helping them build confidence and achieve their full potential.

Reflective Parenting Session

At The Active Learning Company, we provide specialised Reflective Parenting Sessions designed to help parents navigate and support their child’s unique development and learning needs, particularly after a neurodiversity diagnosis.

These sessions offer a safe and supportive space for parents to reflect on their parenting approach, understand the underlying needs driving their child’s behaviours, and strengthen parent-child relationships through improved communication and emotional connection.

With a focus on practical strategies, emotional regulation, and executive functioning skills, we help parents manage challenging behaviours, establish effective routines, and foster resilience within the family. Led by a highly experienced therapist and BACP member, these sessions provide compassionate guidance, equipping parents with the tools, confidence, and insights needed to create lasting positive change and enhance overall family wellbeing.
