Commit to supporting young carers

A youngster under the age of 18 who routinely provides care for a family member or friend who is handicapped, unwell, struggles with mental health issues, or has an addiction problem is known as a young carer.

The entire school is dedicated to addressing the requirements of young carers so that they may attend class, take pleasure in it, and reach their full potential.

With responsibility for young carers and their families, the school has a designated Young carers' School Lead. Students and families will be informed of the lead's name and how to get in touch with them to obtain help.

To assist students and their families, the school only shares information with specialists and organisations when it is necessary.

Young carers may engage in:

  • Practical tasks (cooking, housework and shopping)
  • Physical care (lifting or helping someone use the stairs)
  • Personal care (dressing, washing, helping with toilet needs)
  • Managing the family budget
  • Managing medication
  • Looking after younger siblings
  • Helping someone communicate
